Aminophylline

Bronchodilator


Acute bronchospasm
IV:
6 mg/kg then:
2-6 months: 0.4-0.5 mg/kg/h
6-11 months: 0.6-0.7 mg/kg/h
1-12 years: 0.8-1 mg/kg/h
>12 years: 0.7 mg/kg/h
Base dose on ideal body weight.



Administration: Continuous infusion mixture:
<10 kg: 250 mg in 50 mL NS (5 mg/mL)
10-39 kg: 500 mg in 50 mL NS (10 mg/mL)
≥40 kg: 500 mg in 50 mL NS (10 mg/mL)


Draw level 12-24 hours after initiation of continuous infusion. Target serum level is 10-15 mg/L (55-83 micromol/mL). Drug interactions are common, including ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, erythromycin.
